Citizens from 103 countries, including Vietnam, will be exempted from visas to enter Oman for a period of 10 days. Information from the Royal Oman Police said that travelers need a hotel booking confirmation, health insurance and return tickets to be able to receive this new type of tourist visa.
The move is aimed at supporting the country's struggling tourism industry and economy. Last week, the Oman side said it would continue to issue tourist visas to groups of guests who booked tours from hotels and tour operators, but were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Gulf country has resumed international flights since the beginning of October, but only citizens, holders of valid residence and work visas can enter.
Oman is facing large deficits and debts over the next few years. The country is trying to boost its economy in the direction of reducing its dependence on oil. The country's 2020-2024 medium-term fiscal plan says the visa-free policy will encourage tourism to Oman, improve the tourism industry and further contribute to the country's economy.
